Tell a Friend about LSN
LSN Bosnia-Herzegovina Health
Where We WorkLSN-BiH has been very successful in linking individual survivors and their families to existing health services including: free medicine from local hospitals; free legal advice from a local women’s legal association; free school books from a local non-governmental organization (NGO); and clothing from the Red Cross. The Surviving Limb Loss pamphlets have been translated into Bosnian and distributed to thousands of survivors.

In order to affect system-level change necessary to improve the standard of health care for all survivors, LSN-BiH is working to standardize the quality of prostheses available in Bosnia. Through round-table discussions, client-satisfaction studies, and distribution of the results to relevant organizations in the country, LSN hopes to increase quality of medical care available to survivors and other people with disabilities.

In one of the regions where LSN-BiH operates, former war combatants were not recognized as war victims, and as a result, many survivors and amputees did not have any health coverage or other social protection. Through LSN, many of these survivors received prostheses and much needed medical attention.

In 2004, LSN-BiH received an award from the city of Velika Kladusa for their commitment to work to improve the lives of survivors and assist in their reintegration into society.

Sports
The LSN-BIH Network organizes social, recreational and athletic activities for survivors. The Network has a very active sports program that includes the annual Princess Diana Memorial Sitting Volleyball Tournament and a Wheelchair Basketball Tournament. Teams from countries around the region participate. Events such as these foster both athletic development and rehabilitation, and provide a forum for initiating reconciliation efforts. Former combatants and enemies now play side by side as athletes and equals. The Bosnia-Herzegovina National Sitting Volleyball Team, which has held the title of the European Champions four years in a row, won the Gold Medal in the 2004 Paralympics Games held in Athens.
