LSN Ethiopia Human Rights
LSN-Ethiopia has been an active participant in international human rights advocacy, helping to draft the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. This landmark treaty, affecting 600 million people with disabilities worldwide, will build a global framework of international law to create, change and enforce laws that promote human rights for all.
In March 2005, LSN-Ethiopia, in collaboration with other organizations for people with disabilities, and the Ethiopian Government, organized events celebrating the Mine Ban Treaty anniversar. The event, attended by survivors and representatives from a variety of national and international organizations, was also a forum to address the current policies on victim assistance.
Also in March 2005, an LSN-sponsored group of survivors from Ethiopia participated in the Inter-Faith Action for Peace in Africa (IFAPA) summit, held in Kampala, Uganda. The purpose of the summit was to encourage religious and political leaders to work together to advocate for the human rights of landmine survivors and other people with disabilities.
